Introduction to Physical Science
What is Physical Science?
- Physical Science is the study of matter and energy
- Matter: is the “stuff” everything is made of
- Energy: is the force that causes things to move or change
The Branches of Physical Science Broken Down
- Physical Science is broken down into two main subjects:
Chemistry
- Chemistry is the study of matter— what it's made of, how it behaves, and how it changes.
- The study of Chemistry includes learning about elements, atoms, reactions, states of matter, acids and bases, and more!
Chemistry is known as the "central science!"
- Chemistry is known as "the central science" because it connects to many fields.
- It explains particles and energy (physics), the chemicals in living things (life science), and how medicines work (medicine).
Physics
- Physics studies how things move, interact, and use energy.
- It covers forces, motion, energy, and matter, explaining everything from falling objects to planetary motion!
How do other branches of science use Physical Science?
- Physical science studies matter and energy, which helps other sciences explain how things work.
- It connects to life science (blood flow and oxygen), Earth science (volcanoes and pressure), and astronomy (rockets and stars)!
