On February 9, Audubon French Program was featured PRIME TIME on the National French Channel M6 for the news Magazine "66 Minutes" (the equivalent of 60 minutes). The report was titled "New Orleans, the Most French of American Cities" and highlighted the local French community, including Mme Sophie, our French Director. The episode aired at 6:40 PM and was a major success, making M6 the TOP-RATED CHANNEL among viewers under 50 during its time slot.

Another Happy Day in Audubon School

Valentine's Day

In January, we welcomed French pedagogical advisor Claire Marteau for a training focused on developing oral language skills in elementary students. In February, Elsa Copete led a session with all Live Oak teachers to enhance reading and writing comprehension in French. Lastly, we had the distinct honor of hosting a training for primary school directors from French institutions, led by French inspectors based in North America and their three pedagogical advisors. A total of 35 directors from across the U.S. and Canada attended, including our very own Mme Sophie.

As an AEFE-accredited school recognized by the French Ministry of Education, Audubon Charter benefits from high-quality training programs for its French teachers. Some educators travel to other AEFE schools in the U.S. or Canada for three-day training sessions, while we also host AEFE trainers on our campuses for customized professional developments.

RUGBY

Every Friday, 3rd and 4th graders participate in a fun flag rugby discovery activity. Two professional players visited them, on February 14, sharing tips and inspiring the young athletes. The kids are now training enthusiastically for a tournament called "My French NOLA Gold Rugby Trophy", scheduled on April, 12. Each session focuses on teamwork, passing, and game strategy. The weekly sessions are full of energy and excitement as they prepare for the big event.

Black History Month

It recognizes the impact of African American leaders, artists, activists, and communities in shaping the nation's culture, politics, and society. This month also serves as a reminder to reflect on the ongoing struggle for equality and justice.

Since the beginning of the school year, three French interns have been working at the school. They are all studying to become primary school teachers. At the school, they assist in classrooms, supporting teachers and helping students. They also manage the monthly newsletter and participate in the French homework center. Each of them lives with a host family, allowing them to experience and discover Louisiana’s unique culture. Their presence adds an international touch to the school community.

Basics of learning a second language TO KEEP IN MIND : - Learning a new language involves comprehensible inputs (i.e. understanding something said or read in the target language) and comprehensible outputs (i.e. being able to express oneself through writing or speaking). - All four components of learning a new language: listening, reading, speaking, and writing should be balanced out. - Increasing vocabulary is key.
