Our Immersive Assessment - Question the Evidence, is a unique assessment experience. You'll embark on an interactive journey exploring what it is like to be a detective constable.
The assessment is accessed online and can be completed from anywhere. In the assessment, you will step into the shoes of a police detective, tasked with unravelling a complex case.
This handbook has been designed to support your preparation for our Immersive Assessment. You'll learn more about:

QUESTION THE EVIDENCE
The immersive assessment consists of several components, where you'll face different scenarios and tasks you may encounter in the role. During the assessment you will:
- Step into the shoes of a detective constable, tasked with unravelling a complex case.
- Be involved in several scenarios in which you will need to use your judgement.
- Complete questions exploring your personality, allowing you to reflect on yourself and your working style.
Our goal is for you to experience how detectives contribute to making communities better and safer. You’ll be a trusted presence, working with diverse communities and providing crucial support to victims of crime. You will need to reflect on your motivations for becoming a detective constable. The more you research, the more you'll be able to demonstrate your knowledge and passion for joining Police Now.
WHAT TO EXPECT
KEY THINGS TO KNOW
- The assessment is not timed and it takes on average, 45 minutes to complete.
- It has been designed to consider best practice guidance that will enable you to perform at your best.
- You will be assessed to ensure your own preferences and working styles align with what makes a successful detective on Police Now's programme.
- The assessment includes situational judgement questions, personality questions, and a gamified puzzle.

It was interesting to follow the progressive nature of a case through the assessment process and it was interesting to find out how the detective unpicked the investigation. It was also important to, and helpful to recognise the layers in the case. The puzzle tasks were also challenging and mentally stimulating.
I enjoyed reading about the case, the videos including the two victims allowed me to synthesise with them and really get into the role of a detective.

Yes, you will receive a personalised feedback report on your candidate portal. We hope the feedback report gives you a good insight into your performance and recommend you use this to prepare for any next steps.
