Observation Report for Ryan Britland:Bending 1” pipe Candidate Name: Ryan Britland Unit Observed: IPS05 Job Context I got given a 1” drawing that had 1 bent pipeline in it. This gave me chance to use the bending machine and to learn different ways to mark it out. I followed safety precautions whilst doing this task. The tools I used for this was a tape measure, engineers square, bending machine and a spirit level.

Forming materials by applied pressure.

Firstly, I collected my drawing from the office and scanned through it, so I knew what I had to do. I then went and collected my bit of pipe which was 1350mm long and brought the bending machine over to my bay. I got my grinder with a flapping disc and applied a 37.5* prep to both ends and then cleaned up the outside and inside with an internal grinder. I then had a look to see what the measurements where for where I had to bend the pipe. The first bend was at 530mm so I marked that on my pipe with my tape measure and a piece of chalk. I then had to take off the nominal bore which was 25mm and marked it, I then rubbed off my old line as now I have the mark where I bend the pipe at. I then set the bending machine up to the correct size pipe. I then placed my pipe in the bending machine and putting the line I had marked on the centre of the bending machine. I then started to bend the pipe to somewhere near 90*. Once I got close, I took the pipe out and checked it with my square, if it needed a bit more I would of put it back in the bending machine but it was okay so I didn’t have to. Once that was done, I double checked my measurement to make sure it was okay and it was.
