EQ: How do waves behave and what are the characteristics of their behavior
S8P4 d. Develop and use a model to compare and contrast how light and sound waves are refracted, absorbed, transmitted, defracted, and reflected through various materials.
Learning targets art. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/131871095317998566/
- Be able to recall the different forms of wave behaviors.
- Be able to distinguish between the different wave behaviors.
- Be able to define the different wave behaviors.
- Be able to apply the behavior of waves to any given scenario.

WAVE DISTURBANCES
All waves can be deflected, distorted or changed when they come in contact with a boundary.

WAVE DISTURBANCES
When light interacts with matter it can be….
- Absorbed
- Reflected
- Transmitted

Remember….
If you see text in red as we are moving through the slide show, this is important information that should be written down on your graphic organizer.

Absorption: Occurs when light waves enters a medium and disappears. Energy is transferred from the wave to the matter in the new medium.

Absorption diagram. https://science.howstuffworks.com/light12.htm
Light stops at the object and does not reflect or refract.
EX: Yellow bananas are seen as yellow because all other colors are ABSORBED
Reflection: A wave strikes the surface of a medium and bounces off.
EX: An image reflected on a still water body.
Law of Reflection: the angle of incidence is = to the angle of reflection

Transmission: Occurs when light waves pass through an object without interacting.
