Gatsby’s mansion is in West Egg, where individuals who have recently come into money live. It is enormous with lavish decor, but it is dusty and unusually dark, as if Gatsby isn’t taking care of it. It is modeled after a Normandy hotel.
Gatsby’s Mansion
The Valley of Ashes is a depressing, industrial area between West Egg and Manhattan. Industrialization causes a layer of soot and ash over everything in the area. Train tracks run through the Valley of Ashes and a river runs nearby, as goods need to be transported to and from the factories. The Valley of Ashes is also accessible via motor car.

Nick is renting a small home in West Egg near Gatsby’s mansion. It is a middle-class home and not lavish like the mansions Gatsby and Daisy live in.
Nick's Bungalow
Daisy and Tom’s mansion is in East Egg, which is where individuals who have inherited their wealth live. These individuals have grown up with wealth. They have a dock near their house, and a green light emanates from it.
Daisy & Tom's Mansion
There are two docks in The Great Gatsby. One is near Gatsby’s house and one is near Daisy’s house. They are across from each other. Gatsby often stands on his dock looking across at the green light that is on Daisy’s dock.
