Pink Shirt Day is a day to stand up against bullying by wearing a pink shirt. It started because a boy was bullied for wearing a pink shirt, and his friends wore pink to support him. Now, people wear pink to show kindness and remind everyone that bullying is not okay.

Anti-bullying day

Anti-Bullying Day is a day to remind everyone that bullying is wrong. The United Nations Anti-Bullying Day takes place on 4 May. In Canada and some other parts of the world, 22 February is Pink Shirt Day. Anti-Bullying Week takes place in England and Wales every November.

Where can it happen?

Bullying can happen anywhere. It can be in schools, at home, at work, in online social spaces, via text messaging or via email.

What is cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is bullying that happens online. It can happen on social media, texting, or gaming. It might involve sending mean messages, posting embarrassing pictures, or spreading lies.

5. Sexual Bullying

Sexual bullying is when someone makes unwanted sexual comments, jokes or touches another person.

What happens to the victims?

Bullying can make people feel sad, lonely and scared. It can hurt their feelings and make them sick or have trouble sleeping. It's important to talk to an adult for help.

2. Social Bullying

Social bullying is when someone tries to hurt another person’s friendships or reputation, like by spreading rumors or excluding them.

How Cyberbullying Affects People:

  • Feeling sad or upset: Being bullied online can make someone feel really hurt or sad.
  • Losing confidence: It can make someone feel bad about themselves and their abilities.
  • Feeling alone: It might make a person feel like no one is there to support them.
  • Fear of going online: If someone is being cyberbullied, they might be afraid to check their phone or social media because they don’t want to see the hurtful messages.

4. Psychological orverbal bullying

Verbal bullying is when someone uses words to hurt or upset another person. This can include name-calling, teasing or making cruel comments.

What is NOT Bullying?

Teasing between friends: Friends sometimes joke around with each other, but it’s important that everyone is okay with it. If someone feels hurt by the teasing, it could be bullying. A one-time mistake: If someone says something mean by accident and doesn’t do it again, it’s not bullying. Bullying happens over and over again on purpose.

1. Physical bullying

Physical bullying is when someone hurts another person by hitting, kicking or pushing them.

What can we do about bullying?

Tell a trusted adult: If you’re being bullied or you see it happening, tell a teacher, parent. Stay calm: If you’re being bullied, try to stay calm and walk away. Don't react angrily, as it can make the situation worse.
