Step 1
Kneel beside the casualty and straighten their legs.
Step 2
Place the arm nearest to you at a right angle to the casualty's body, with their elbow bent and palm facing up.
Step 5
- Remove your hand from supporting the casualty's cheek.
- Place a hand on their forehead.
- Using your free hand place your index and middle finger under their chin. Gently lift and hold their chin to keep their airway open.
Step 4
- Using your free hand, take the casualty's furthest leg, holding it just above the knee, and pull it up until their foot is flat on the ground and their knee is pointing up.
- Ensure that you are still holding the casualty's hand against their cheek. Then, using the casualty's bent leg, roll them towards you.
- Make any adjustments needed so that the casualty's hip and knee are both bent at right angles.
Step 3
- Take the other arm and place it across their chest, with the back of their hand against the cheek that is nearest to you.
- Hold their hand in position with one of your hands.
