La rapida espansione dell’impero islamico si deve alla guida dei califfi (i successori di Maometto). Sotto la loro guida, gli Arabi conquistarono, nel nome dell’Islam, la Siria e l’Egitto.

Nel VII secolo, la penisola arabica era una vasta distesa desertica, un ambiente ostile alla vita umana. Questa regione arida si estendeva nell'Arabia settentrionale, mentre a sud si trovava un'area resa fertile dalle piogge .

Gli Arabi, con la nascita dell'Islam, all'inizio del VII secolo, diffusero la loro cultura e religione, conquistando Egitto, Spagna e Sicilia e lasciando un segno nella storia. In questa religione l'unico dio è Allah.
