LEUKEMIA: The term for a group of malignancies that affect the bone marrow and lymphatic system. It is most prevalent in children between the ages of 2 and 5 years (ATI,2024). Leukemia is classifised into two different groups depending on the type of WBCs that becomes neoplastic (ATI,2024).

RISK FACTORS

Most common cancer of childhood, Male sex assisgned at birth, Non- Hispanic white Americans or Hispanic clients, family history, and children who have trisomy 21 (ATI,2024).

Expected findings

LOW GRADE FEVER PALLOR INCREASED BRUSING AND PETECHIAE LISTLESSNESS ENLARGED LIVER, LYMPH NODES & JOINTS ABDOMINAL, LEG, & JOINT PAIN HEADACHE VOMMITTING & ANOREXIA UNSTEADY GAIT MANIFESTATIONS OF ICP

LABORATORY TESTS

ANEMIA (LOW BLOOD COUNT)THROMBOCYTOPENIA (LOW PLATLETS) NEUTROPENIA (LOW NEUTROPHILS) LEUKEMIA BLASTS (IMMATURE WBCS) BLOOD SMEAR (IMMATURE WBC) (ATI,2024).

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES

Bone marrow aspirartion or biopsy analysis, Cerebrospinal fluid analysis, and liver and kideny studies (ATI,2024).
