Jurassic Period

The Jurassic period had large conifer forests, warm shallow seas, and a very humid climate. Dinosaurs were very prominent during this time; the first flying brid like species also emerged. The oceans also had giant marine reptiles like the plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs, for example. On the other hand, early mammals were still small in comparison to the other gargantuan creatures of the prehistoric world.

  1. The Jurassic period is named after the Jura Mountains where geologists first studied its limestone rocks in the early 1800s
  2. The Jurassic Period is divided into three epochs: Early Jurassic, Middle Jurassic, and Late Jurassic.
  3. The largest animals in the Jurassic period were the sauropod dinosaurs
  4. The Tyrannosaurus Rex actually did not exist yet, but its preceding predator the Allosaurus did!
