It is extremely distressing to struggle in a class by yourself. You are probably not the only one who is struggling. Acquaint yourself with the people in your major for academic support and study partners. They might turn into friends!

Most of the classes taken the first two years of college are taught by several professors. Don't allow a class to ruin your semster. Look at the reviews for the professors and choose the best one available. RateMyProfessors is a great resource.

Studying in the same place you sleep in might not help a student be their most productive. Find a place on campus where you can concentrate and get work done.

College is expensive. Make a weekly budget before the semester starts, and adjust after the first month, if needed. Excel is a good way to keep track of your expenses.

Plan Your Semester

Be Safe

Add any projects, major assignments, and future exams to your calendar. The last two months of the semester can be intense, and it helps so much to plan ahead and not be taken by surprise by any important deadlines. A planner or Excel are good ways to keep track of assignments

Attend Activity Fairs

Do not blindly trust the people you meet. If you go out, make responsible choices, and try to take care of the people you are with. College should be enjoyable, but do not let anything get in the way of your education or safety.

Look Into Diversity Centers

Joining a club is a great way to feel involved, and feel less lonely your first semester of college. It is also a good way to meet people who have similar interests. Do not let shyness get in the way of a good start to college.

The first month of college can feel isolating. Visiting the Diversity Centers your university offers can be a great opportunity to participate in events that aim to help students like you and meet students you have things in common with.
