Boyan Slat é nato in Olanda nel 1994, e appassionato di esperimenti "ingegneristici". A 14 anni é entrato nel Guinness dei primati con i suoi razzi ad acqua, a 16 anni ha deciso di dedicarsi a un progetto di studio sull'inquinamento degli oceani.
