The power of saying

This is My STory

Start

The Bible isn’t just a collection of teachings—it’s full of real people, wrestling with real struggles, and telling their real stories. And those stories have shaped generations.

These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31

Why share stories?

You don’t have to be a biblical hero to have a story worth telling. Every day, God is shaping something in your life—through joy, struggle, and everything in between. When we tell our stories, we remind each other that we are growing together. When we don’t share what we’ve been through, we miss opportunities to connect. We also risk forgetting how God has been present in our lives.

After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.Judges 2:10

Jesus Encourages it

In Mark 5, Jesus says this: “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” Do you know to whom he was speaking?

“Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”

What would you say?

Take 3 minutes to consider what story you would tell if you were trying to explain to someone how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you.

Pair up with someone you don't know well.

Each person takes two minutes (you can use the stopwatch below) to share the story they just worked on. Have mercy on each other. :) You just started to work on this.

The listener’s job: Don’t respond right away. Just listen. After both have shared, reflect as a group:

  • How did it feel to tell your story?
  • What did you learn from hearing someone else’s?

After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.
