Allende, Coahuila Senior Abdiel Hernandez was born in the United States but grew up in Allende, Coahuila. Hernandez arrived to Austin in mid-August with his sights set on higher education. “I decided to come here to study and learn English,” Abdiel Hernandez said. “From my city, I traveled by car here. It wasn’t difficult. I just went through the international bridge, and I arrived here with my aunt.”

Nuevo León Nuevo León is a state in Mexico where freshman Metzi Luna moved to Austin, Texas from. Luna and her family decided to move to the U.S. in search of the "American Dream." Two years before they made the move, her father came to work in the U.S. to help support her family and help them prepare for the move. One thing that really stood out to Luna was that sometimes even when she wanted to use English or was trying to learn it, she was placed with other Spanish speakers. “The people were moving me apart from the others because I don’t speak English,” she said. “I'm trying to do my best to be with the others and communicate.”

Villahermosa, Tobasco Senior Chris Hernandez grew up in Villahermosa, a city in the southern Mexican state of Tobasco. Hernandez decided he wanted to move to the United States three years prior to making the move. Hernandez hopes to pursue higher education in the U.S.
