Greetings Old Colony Community, We have made it to February. The “Groundhog” is predicting six more weeks of Winter. Of course I put little faith in Phil. I haven’t seen a hearty winter since 2015. Spring is not far away and soon we will see the crocuses and hear the “crack” of the (baseball) bat. Our sports teams are providing excitement around the school. Congratulations to the coaches and all the players for your hard work. Come out and support them. The Drama Club just wrapped up Northwoods Nonsense. The show was raucous, ludicrous, hilarious, and rousing. The actors truly brought the house down. February break begins on the 14th. When we return, hopefully everyone will feel energized from having a week off. I would be remiss in not recognizing Beth Botelho, Maria Szymanski, and Kathy Peterson and all who helped with this year’s Frosty Runner Road Race. We saw record numbers of runners and even the weather cooperated. By all reports, it was another well organized event. The days are getting longer and the spring sports season and spring Drama Club production can not be far behind. Come on over and support all our students as they strive to be the best they can be. The Class of 2026 is seeking donations of gift cards valued at $10-100 for restaurants, grocery stores, gas and retail as well as any raffle prizes (concert/sports tickets, gift baskets etc.) that can be used for a potential calendar fundraiser for the month of March. All donations can be dropped off to Chef Clarke or the main office attention Class of 2026 by February 14th. Please reach out to Samantha Clarke at sclarke@oldcolony.us

Science News We are happy to announce that Old Colony’s Engineering Club is a winner of NASA’s TechRise Student Challenge. The club submitted their proposal, “High Altitude Oxygen Diffusion” under the guidance of their club advisor, Mr. Patrick Parks. They were awarded a $1500 prize to spend on materials, a flight box, and free technical assistance from Future Engineers. Their experiment will experience conditions at 70,000 feet on a NASA-sponsored test flight this summer.
After School Days All teachers are available on Tuesday or Thursday of each week, so be sure to take advantage of this time. If you don’t remember your teacher’s late day, remember to ask, check the syllabus or Google Classroom.
Late Bus We have late buses available Monday - Thursday every week, with the exception of half days or days where we don’t have school. Buses leave promptly at 3:50pm.
CPR Training On January 28th our entire freshman class – 151 students – began working toward their certifications in basic CPR and AED skills. Members of the Rochester Fire Department partnered with us to provide this important life skill to our students during their usual Health and Wellness classes. The training will conclude on March 6th, and all of our freshmen will receive certification cards. We count ourselves fortunate to have students eager to learn these skills and we appreciate the professionalism and generosity of our local first responders.
Cougar Connection Our Library is open every Monday - Thursday until 4:30. Be sure to stop in if you want to use any of the library resources, form study or homework groups with your classmates, or just need a place to get some work done before heading home, work, or practice. There will be teachers in the library all four days to answer your questions. Students who drive or can arrange for a ride home are welcome to stay until 4:30. We also have late buses Mon - Th that depart at 3:50.

The Day of the Test Reminders
- Make sure that you are well rested and eat breakfast.
- Arrive at school on time and be relaxed.
- Dress Comfortably accounting for the weather and dress code.
- Do your best and have a positive attitude.
- Listen / read carefully all test-taking directions and ask questions if any directions are unclear.
- Do not get stuck on any one item.
- Take your time and check answers for accuracy.
