BRANDON ENGLAND
“Wrestling is a difficult sport, because it takes dedication, determination, and a strong mindset and mentality. And for people that have not joined wrestling or done it, you just have to be committed to the sport itself,” England said. When wrestling for over 12 years, England has seen how the sport itself has influenced him and his development through his high school years. “Going to the tournaments is probably my favorite part because you’re making memories while witnessing your teammates and yourself working hard and putting your best efforts in to win for the whole team,” England said. As his senior year comes to a close in June of 2025, England hopes to attend a four year college, and if presented with an opportunity to continue wrestling, he intends to accept it.
From the green football field of War Memorial Stadium, to the crimson mat inside the Gil Asa Gym, the competition never stops.Senior Brandon England has been wrestling for 12 years as his older brother, Cade England, introduced him to the sport. He first piqued an interest when he was almost five and his brother took him to the after school wrestling program, Smash Mouth. This program’s main goal was to shape young wrestlers into strong and skilled athletes. When he started wrestling, his five year old self saw it as something that was terrifying because of how quickly he was introduced into the sport “At the beginning I just kind of hopped in and it was very nerve-wracking, but as I got older, I began to understand, and the encouragement from my coaches helped inspire me and motivated me to push myself as well. One of my coaches, John Azevedo claimed that I was an ‘All Natural Wrestler,’ so I believed in myself,” England said. England began to work six times a week and competed numerous times as his main goal was to compete at state. As England grew up, he grew to love the sport and the skills that came with it.
