Climate vs weather

Climate is based on long term trends and is measured over years. It is what happens to the atmosphere in a specific place for over 30 years or more. Scientists working on climate are called climatologists
Weather is measured everyday because it can change minute to minute, day to day or season to season. It is what happens to the atmosphere over a short period of time. Scientists working on weather are called meteorologists
Watch the video!
Climate types are based on the local vegetation and temperature. The system divides the world into climate zones.

A: Tropical → In this hot and humid zone, the average temperatures are greater than 18°C all year B: Dry → These climate zones are so dry because the temperature is very hot and it does not rain often. C: Temperate → In this zone, there are typically warm and humid summers with thunderstorms and cool winters. D. Continental → These regions have warm to cool summers and very cold winters. In the winter, this zone can experience snowstorms, strong winds, and very cold temperatures, sometimes falling below -30°C E: Polar →In the polar climate zones, it’s extremely cold. Even in summer, the temperatures here never go higher than 10°C.

the greenhouse gases

Humans and human activities like burning fossil fuels or deforestation that release greenhouse gases .

CAUSES →
CONSEQUENCES →

intense droughts, water scarcity, severe fires, rising sea levels, flooding, melting polar ice, storms and declining biodiversity.

The greenhouse effect

The greenhouse effect

Watch the video and explain in your own words what the greenhouse effect is.

Vocabulary

to heat: chauffer to warm: réchauffer to cool: refroidir to trap: piéger, bloquer to surround: entourer to release: relâcher

The greenhouse effect

Normally, the heat coming from the planet goes straight through the atmosphere

But because of the greenhouse gases, some of the heat is trapped and it causes a rise of temperature

Some solar radiations go through the atmosphere and hit the Earth

It is called the greenhouse effect and it leads to global warming.

Some other solar radiations bounce back into space and never touch the Earth.

1. Find human activities in the text and highlight them. 2. How do these activities participate in climate change? Highlight the answers. 3. Focus on the numbers. What is there share?
Put the corresponding number in the correct box.
Who is the narrator?
What is the narrator speaking of?
Landscapes
Look at the picture and imagine the aftermath of human activities on the following landscapes. Glacier → Sea → The forest → Volcano → River →
Explain, in your own words, each statement.
Nature doesn't need people but people need nature. "Your future depends on me." "Your actions will detemine your fate."
Vocabulary
To depend on something/someone: dépendre de qqch/qq To pollute: polluer To evolve: évoluer To destroy: détruire
To be interconnected: être liés

Le present perfect

Il s’emploie pour faire le bilan d’une expérience ayant toujours des conséquences dans le présent, pour parler d’une action commencée dans le passé et qui se poursuit dans le présent ou pour parler du résultat présent d’une action accomplie.

→ I have fed species greater than you.
Dans le passé et encore aujourd'hui, Mère Nature a nourri des espèces plus grandes que nous.
