FISU Achievements:

• Sara Balzer won bronze in team sabre at the 2015 FISU World University Games in Gwangju. In 2019, she won silver with the team and gold in the individual event in Napoli

Career Highlights:

• She won her first Olympic medal in 2021. In Tokyo, she took silver with the French team. In 2024, she added another silver in the individual sabre event in Paris

Olga Kharlan (UKR)

FISU Achievements:

• Olga Kharlan won gold in individual sabre at the 2011 FISU World University Games in Shenzhen. She also won silver with the team. In 2013, she claimed another gold in the individual event in Kazan

Career Highlights:

• Her Olympic success began in 2008. She won gold with the Ukrainian team and bronze in the individual event in Beijing. In 2012 she won a team bronze in London. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, she won individual bronze and team silver. In 2024, she added another individual bronze in Paris. Finally, she secured team gold in Paris, capping off her legendary career

• Oh Sang-uk won gold in both individual and team sabre at the 2019 FISU World University Games in Napoli

Career Highlights:

• In 2021, he won Olympic gold in team sabre at the Tokyo Games. In 2024, he dominated in Paris, winning gold in both individual and team sabre

FISU Achievements:

• Sergey Bida won gold in both individual and team épée at the 2017 FISU World University Games in Taipei

Career Highlights:

• In 2021, he won an Olympic silver medal in the team épée event in Tokyo, representing Russia. Now competing for the USA, he remains a top épée fencer

Giovanna Trillini (ITA)

FISU Achievements:

• Giovanna Trillini made a strong impact at the 1991 FISU World University Games in Sheffield, winning gold in both the individual and team foil events

Career Highlights:

• Following her success at the university level, Trillini went on to dominate Olympic fencing. She won individual and team gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, establishing herself as a top foil fencer. Her Olympic success continued with team gold medals in Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000), solidifying her legacy as one of Italy’s greatest fencers
