BASIC RULES

·The pitcher throws the ball to the batter from the pitcher's mound.Strike: A pitched ball that the batter either swings at and misses or doesn’t swing at but the umpire calls it within the strike zone. Ball: A pitched ball outside of the strike zone that the batter does not swing at. Count: The count refers to the number of balls and strikes. For example, a "3-2 count" means 3 balls and 2 strikes.

The batter tries to hit the ball with a bat to get on base. Hit: If the batter successfully makes contact with the ball and it lands in fair territory, it’s a hit. Fair vs. Foul: A fair ball is one that lands in the area bounded by the foul lines. A foul ball is one that lands outside of this area. Outs: The batter is out if: The batter strikes out (three strikes). The batter hits a ball that is caught in the air (a fly out). The batter is tagged out or forced out at a base.

OF BASEBALL

The Number 42: The number 42 was retired across all Major League Baseball teams in honor of Jackie Robinson, the first African-American player to play in the MLB in the modern era. His courageous breaking of the color barrier in 1947 forever changed the game.

The First Baseball Game Played in the U.S.: While baseball's origins are often debated, the first recorded game of baseball in America was played in New York City in 1846.

CURIOSITIES

The Origin of the Term "Baseball": The name "baseball" came from the old English game "rounders," which is similar to baseball. The term "base" refers to the bases a player must run around.

The "Around the Horn" Play: When a team turns a double play in the infield, it's sometimes referred to as “around the horn” because the ball travels around the bases, usually from third to second to first.

Baseball's Special Ball: The baseball used in professional games is made up of 108 double stitches, and it's designed to be durable yet responsive. A new ball is used each time one is hit out of the park, making for lots of balls in play

relations with spain

While basketball also came from the United States, like baseball, it has had an even bigger following in Spain, with teams like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona having storied basketball programs. However, baseball's growth in Spain has been slower compared to the overwhelming popularity of basketball.
