And just like that, we are now in Unit 3 of the Art 8 course. My, how time has flown! Hopefully you’ve been enjoying the Art 8 course and the projects that we’ve completed so far within the course. In our next unit, we will discuss the art of figure drawings. That’s right…..we are going to learn how to draw the human form within this unit! While drawing people may be difficult, we will learn some tips and tricks to make figure drawing easier. Don’t worry about whether you’re “good” at drawing people or not….just follow directions and have fun in this figure drawing unit! Continue on to learn more about the fun we’ll have in Unit 3!

A figure drawing is any drawing in which a person or people are the focal point. Humans can be difficult to draw, but being able to break them down into shapes can make it fun! In Unit 3 of the course, we will learn how to draw the human body, from head to toe. By looking for simple shapes in the human form, learning about proportion, and the “8 Head Rule”, figure drawing can be easy!

Please remember that when it comes to the projects for the Art 8 course, Mrs. Milam does NOT grade you based on your artistic abilities. As long as you follow all project directions, you will be good to go!

U3 Lessons & Due Dates

For the Unit 3 – “Figure Drawing” project you will be asked to use PENCIL ONLY and draw an image of a human figure; you must draw the figure from head to toe, as we’ve been learning how to draw the whole human form within Unit 3 of the course. Please do NOT make your artwork using the computer. You may add clothing, facial details, and background details to your drawing. You will NOT add any color to this artwork. You are NOT to draw a stick figure, as we did not learn about stick figures within Unit 3. You will also complete a “Credit Line” and answer four “Artist Statement” questions with your finished figure drawing. Please use what we’ve learned within Unit 3 to create your figure drawing creation.
