How to search for and borrow books at BUW?

How to search?

The catalogue provides information on books, journals and other resources at BUW and most of the faculty libraries.

Entrance to the catalogue on the main website

Type the keyword in the search box: title, auithor or subject and click "Search"

The results will give you a list of items meeting your search criteria

Click on a title to check the availability of copies of the book you are looking for

Location: BUW Wolny Dostęp (Open Stacks) & Księgozbiór Dydaktyczny (Textbook Collection)

Please note, from these locations, books cannot be ordered. To use them, locate them on the shelf!

This copy can be borrowed home, look for it in the Open Stacks using the LC Classification

In order to use a copy from the Closed Stacks, click on the Request button:

Information about this request will appear on your Reader's Account, in the Requests tab

After clicking on Request, select the Pickup Location and Send request:

Remember! Books and journals from the Closed Stacks marked "Na miejscu" (On site) can be ordered only to Czytelnia (Reading Room). Using the Circulation Desk and Pick-up Locker is available only to the users who have the right to borrow books.

These copies are located in the UW faculty libraries Check the BUW website for the location of the particular library On that library's website, check their opening hours and rules

Here you can pick up books requested from the Closed Stacks.

The Pick-up Locker is available 24/7

Open Stacks (PL: Wolny Dostęp)

Look for this copy using the LC Classification in the Open Stacks area

Determine the correct subject area and bookshelf in the Open Stacks

Check the classification range on the information panel on the shelf

Find the book with the correct classification on the bookshelf, take it from the shelf and go to the Self-checks or the Circulation Desk

Use BUW Plans to find the correct subject area and shelf!

Selfcheck Kiosks

The Selfchecks are available during the opening hours of the Library.

Watch the film "How do the selfchecks work at BUW?"

Here you can:

  • borrow books from the Open Stacks and the Textbook Collection,
  • return books,
  • renew the due date,
  • pay fines

Logging in

Click on Sign in

Enter your user ID: the number of your library card (your student ID)

Enter your password acquired during the registration at BUW or created during the online activation

Remember, enter only numbers without spaces!

The number is on the back of your student ID.

Use this option if you want to change your password, or if you cannot remember it.

Textbook Collection (PL: Księgozbiór Dydaktyczny)

Look for this copy using the call number starting with letter "W" in the Textbook Collection area on level 2

Find the correct bookshelf in the Textbook Collection

Check the call number range on the information panel on the shelf

Find the book with the correct call number on the bookshelf, take it from the shelf and go to the Self-checks or the Circulation Desk

Use BUW Plans to find the correct subject area and shelf!

(Reading Room) (Pick-up Locker) (Circulation Desk)

Circulation Desk

Here you can:

  • borrow: Kindle readers, books from the Open Stacks and the Textbook Collection,
  • pick up: reserved books and books requested from the Closed Stacks,
  • return books and Kindle readers,
  • renew the due date,
  • pay fines

The Circulation Desk is open: Monday – Saturday 9 am – 9 pm
