Let's recap on: how the Example Text links to the Vehicle Text. Let's remember: which emotion we are going to write about building a shelter for: Anger, Fear or Jealousy.

Teach

Drama Opportunity: Hot Seating.

Get into groups according to which emotion you have chosen to write about.

Two children are to sit facing each other. One child is to act as the main character of the story - the one who builds the shelter. The other child is to act as the emotion character (Anger, Fear or Jealousy) The rest of the group - take turns to ask the main character questions: How do you feel knowing this emotion is coming to stay? What are you worried or concerned about? Why are you building a shelter for this emotion? What would you like to tell this emotion?

Teach

Drama Opportunity 2: Freeze Frames of Emotion Characters.

In the same groups - work together to create a freeze frame of the following scenes:

  • The main character building the shelter for the emotion character.
  • The emotion character arriving at the scene and causing problems.
  • The emotion character in the shelter that has been made.
  • The main character talking to the emotion character and learning to accept and embrace them.
Children in the freeze frame could act as the main character, the emotion character or create the shapes of the shelter around them.

Teach

While you are in your freeze frames, the main character could answer the following questions: What can you see, hear and feel around you? How are you feeling about what is happening? Why? What do you think about the shelter you have built? Why? What do you wish you could say to the emotion character?
