Pommel Horse

It stands 1.15 meters high, 1.6 meters long, and 35 cm wide. The body is covered in leather or synthetic material, and the two handles (pommels) are usually made of wood or plastic. The pommel horse was originally designed to train soldiers for mounting and dismounting real horses. Gymnasts perform continuous circular and swinging movements without stopping or touching their legs to the horse.

The Most Difficult Skills

Some of the hardest moves include:The Busnari – a highly difficult circular movement over both pommels.The Magyar & Sivado – complex traveling movements across the horse.The Wu Guonian – a full-spindle (360° turn) while moving in circles.

The standard competition judo mat area (tatami) measures 14x14m, though the size can vary for training reasons The surface is covered with tatami mats, traditionally made from rice straw. Nowadays it is often synthetic. The surface is non-slip to prevent accidental slips during gripping or throwing techniques.
