The Vault Has Different Entry Styles

Gymnasts use different entry techniques, including:Handspring Vaults – Running directly into a forward handspring.Tsukahara Vaults – A quarter or half-turn before pushing off the table.Yurchenko Vaults – A roundoff onto the springboard, then a back handspring onto the vault.

Runway

The runway is 25 meters long, allowing gymnasts to sprint at high speeds before takeoff.

Vault Table

The vault table is 1.25 meters high. It has a sloped, spring-loaded surface, helping gymnasts push off for higher flips and twists. A vault routine lasts about 5-7 seconds from the moment the gymnast starts running to the final landing. Despite its short duration, it requires explosive power, speed, precision, and control.

The Hardest Vaults in the World

Some of the most difficult vaults include:The Yurchenko Double Pike (Biles II) – A roundoff entry, back handspring onto the vault, followed by a double backflip in a piked position. The Produnova (The Vault of Death) – A handspring vault followed by a double front flip (extremely dangerous due to landing risks). The Dragulescu – A handspring onto the vault, then a double front flip with a half-twist.

Landing area

Width: 2.5 meters Length: 6 meters The landing mat is made of shock-absorbing foam to help reduce impact on gymnasts’ joints. Gymnasts must land inside of the boundaries.
