Exploratory Practice as Practitioner Research
Why do we need to know about Exploratory Practice as Practitioner Research?
- Exploratory Practice (EP) connects classroom life with practitioner research—investigation carried out by those directly involved in the action.
- It sees teachers, students, coordinators, and administrators as curious individuals capable of exploring their own educational concerns.
- Its inclusion in education promotes critical, reflective, and awareness-driven engagement with the lived experiences of both students and teachers, inside and outside the classroom.
What do we know from teacher research on Exploratory Practice?
- EP understands both teachers and students can be learners (Ref 17).
- In EP learners are a) Unique individuals and social beings, b) Take learning seriously, c) Make independent decisions, and D) Develop as practitioners of learning (Ref 2)
- EP centres on research puzzles that drive investigations by teachers, educators, and students, who take ownership of their practices and ideas.
- The EP principles are grounded on activities carried out to understand the qualities of the lives lived in classrooms (and other professional settings).
