Edgar Allan Poe

Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) was an American writer and poet. He is famous for his dark and mysterious stories, often about death and the human mind. Poe is also considered as the father of the detective story. In 1841, he wrote The Murders in the Rue Morgue, the first detective story ever written. The story is about a detective named C. Auguste Dupin, who solves a strange crime in Paris. Dupin uses his intelligence, logic, and observation to find clues and catch the criminal. Many believe that Dupin inspired other famous detectives, like Sherlock Holmes. Poe also wrote scary stories, such as The Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven. He is remembered as one of the greatest mystery writers in history.
