This lesson plan has been co-developed by the Interactive Research Methods Lab (IRML) and the iTeach teams within the Bagwell College of Education. Its purpose is to familiarize induction teachers and teacher mentors from Paulding County School District with the Interactive Research Methods Lab, the Hopscotch framework for developing well-informed research designs, and the resources provided by the IRML at Kennesaw State University.

This lesson plan will help induction teachers and teacher mentors from Paulding County School District get familiar with the Interactive Research Methods Lab, the Hopscotch framework for developing well-informed research designs, and the resources provided by the IRML at Kennesaw State University. To do so, this unit will help them become familiar with the nine steps proposed by the Hopscotch Model (Jorrín-Abellán, 2016, 2019) to develop sound research designs.

1. This lesson plan aims to familiarize participating induction and mentor teachers with a framework and a set of research design tools to support reflective practice in their daily professional activities.
2. The activities outlined in this lesson plan are designed to foster the development of an inquiry-driven culture among participants, encouraging critical thinking and continuous improvement.

9:45 - 10:45 am – Session with Induction Teachers
Step 1: Welcome to the IRML & introduction to Hopscotch (9:45 - 10:00) Step 2: Presentation of the hands-on activity (10:00 – 10:05) Step 3: Hands-on activity. Participants will be asked to generate the structure of a brief study to analyze a key aspect of concern related to their teaching. To do so, they will check the example provided in Appendix A, as they interact with the resources for each of the nine steps of Hopscotch. (10:05 - 10:35) Step 4: Final Wrap-up discussion and presentation of Hopscotch 4-Teachers (10:35 – 10:45)

10:50 - 11:50 am – Session with Mentor Teachers
Step 1: Welcome to the IRML & introduction to Hopscotch (10:50 - 11:05) Step 2: Presentation of the hands-on activity (11:05 – 11:10) Step 3: Hands-on activity.
