• 778 homicides reported by police in 2023.
• Compared with 2022, the national homicide rate decreased by 14% to 1.94 homicides per 100,000 population.
• Gang-related homicides continued to represent approximately one-quarter (173) of all homicides.
• Nearly 6 in 10 frearm-related homicides were commited with a handgun.
• Almost a quarter (26%) of homicide victims were identified as indigenous.

• In 2023, police reported 778 homicides, 104 fewer victims than the previous year.
• The homicide rate decreased by 14%, from 2.27 to 1.94 homicides per 100,000 population.
• Gang-related homicides and intimate partner homicides all experienced declines.
• Canada's three largest census metropolitan areas: Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver, also contributed to the overall reduction.
