Beyond the Border

Beyond the Border is a catering and food truck restaurant that specializes in Latin and American fusion food. They have been nourishing audience and performers alike at Celebrate the Music since 2010. “We get to feed a lot of people,” said Feda Oweis, the chef and owner of Beyond the Border. “All the children in the music programs of the Bay Area get to come to Celebrate the Music and have a good time.”

Made Out of Dough

Made Out of Dough is a women-owned bakery in Belmont that sells various baked goods like giant cookies, cinnamon rolls, and scones. This is their first year at Celebrate the Music. “We came to Celebrate the Music because it brings people to donate, which I think is great. I feel like having food and having activities for the kids, having the police here, creates this community, which is what Belmont needs,” said Michelle DeSmet, the owner of Made Out of Dough. “The fact that SchoolForce has been around for so long too shows you that it’s working.”

Capo Mediterranean Kitchen

Capo Mediterranean Kitchen is a local restaurant in Belmont that serves fresh and organic Mediterranean dishes. This is also Capo’s first time hosting a booth at Celebrate the Music. “We’re very involved with all the schools around here,” said Hayden Gunn, a manager at Capo. “This is our first year here, and we hope it’s not going to be our last. We want to keep coming.” Gunn emphasizes that he loves seeing the kids have fun at Celebrate the Music and how it brings everyone together in one place.

Kona Ice

Kona Ice is a tropical shaved ice truck that has been coming to Celebrate the Music for quite a few years. Warmer weather makes Kona Ice a popular pick at Celebrate the Music. “I really like the Battle of the Bands,” said Becka Foo, who works for the Kona Ice of San Mateo. Foo has an assistant who comes in mid-way through the day so that she can watch the famous musical battle between the Carlmont High School and UC Davis marching band.

Oracle Community Stage

This stage hosted the Ralston and Carlmont music programs, including Ralston's Honors Band and Carlmont's String Bonanza. This stage also hosted Pennisula Youth Orchestra's Concordia Strings and Latimerlo Studio Singers. In the afternoon, the audience picked up their chairs to make way for Battle of the Bands, where the Carlmont and UC Davis pep bands fought for the audience's affection.

Interactive Stage

This stage offered a more intimate setting for performers, with chairs arranged around the performing microphone which created a more immersive experience. BRSSD's Stars of the Future preformed here after their performance at the SchoolForce stage, followed by an open mic for any curious performers. Then Carlmont Drum Line took the stage.

SchoolForce Stage

This stage was crowded with proud parents as the BRSSD schools showed off their music programs, including a special Stars of the Future dance performance. San Carlos Children's Theater then took center stage, performing Beetlejuice, followed by the West Bay Community Band and UC Davis' marching band. Carlmont Drum Line and Ralston's Jazz band also preformed here.
