February 2023
Solar Installed
El Camioncito returns to Davey Coach for a solar installation. The bus no longer needs to sit stalling in neighborhoods in order to have power to outlets, internet, or heat.
2022-2023 School Year
El Camioncito programs consistently run after school in Mobile Home communities and at the schools on Fridays as part of Project Dream.
November 2022
RISE Turnaround funds are received from the Governor’s office in the amount of $137,130 to continue El Camioncito programs. El Camioncito’s Site Supervisor partners with Lake County Wraparound to help families enroll in LEAP (Low-Income Energy Assistance Program). A total of 10 families register the first year.
November 2020
Grant obtained for Mobile Learning Center
$492,149 is awarded from the Governor’s RISE I funds to LCSD for a Mobile Learning Center that will be housed in a repurposed school bus to bring school-based resources and learning opportunities directly to students in their neighborhoods.

Bus Conversion Complete
LCSD contracts with Davey Coach in Sedalia to complete the buildout of the Mobile Learning Center. The launch Party has great attendance from the community.

Full-time Coordinator Hired
Vianca Gonzalez obtains her Commercial Driver's License and becomes the first full-time, dedicated coordinator for the Mobile Learning Center.
January-June 2022
Neighborhood Programs Begin
Mobile Learning Center programs run consistently in neighborhoods. Students begin using nicknames for the Mobile Learning Center such as “The Magic Bus” and “El Camioncito.” The Mobile Learning Center officially joins Project Dream out-of-school time programs.

Project Dream staff present at the Governor’s mansion about the use of the RISE grant and the success of El Camioncito.

Program Attendance
A total of 84 students attend El Camioncito programs during the 2022-2023 school year and 92% of students that regularly attended El Camioncito programs over the 2022-2023 school year make growth in literacy.

Bus Painted
Using student drawings and feedback, local artist Groucho LeMieux paints the outside of the Mobile Learning Center. Mobile Learning Center is officially renamed “El Camioncito.”

Summer 2023
El Camioncito is stationary at the Lake County Elementary School and used as a space for summer programs. El Camioncito visits mobile home communities along with Family Connectors to help families register for school.
El Camioncito is a community favorite at events around town. Project Dream regularly partners with other community organizations to promote resources and programs.

Expanded Curricula
El Camioncito receives its first high school intern who works daily with students on the bus. El Camioncito hosts Happy Bodies and Consent sexual education curriculum for elementary school students in partnership with Lake County Public Health, ten families opt into the curriculum and Vianca translates the lessons into Spanish. El Camioncito partners once again with Lake County Wraparound to help families enroll in LEAP, a total of 39 families register the second year (up 29 families from November 2022).

Programs Begin
Official Mobile Learning Center programs begin in neighborhoods in collaboration with Project Dream. Project Dream provides employees to accompany bus and run activities.
