LOCATION

The Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island, a small island in New York Harbor. It is close to the city of Manhattan and a short distance from New Jersey. The island is surrounded by the waters of the Hudson River and the Atlantic Ocean, making it visible from many points in the city. To reach the Statue of Liberty, visitors must take a ferry from Battery Park in Manhattan or Liberty State Park in New Jersey. During the ferry ride, you can enjoy incredible views of the statue, the New York skyline, and neighboring Ellis Island

HISTORY

In 1865, a French lawyer named Édouard René de Laboulaye proposed that France gift a statue to the United States as a symbol of friendship between the two countries. The statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi. To be strong and withstand the wind, the internal structure was designed by Gustave Eiffel, the same engineer who created the Eiffel Tower. The statue was built in France and then shipped to New York in pieces. It arrived in 1885. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, and between 1886 and 1902, the statue served as a lighthouse, guiding ships entering New York Harbor.

HOW IS IT?

Height: Measures 93 meters from the ground to the tip of its torch. • Design: The statue shows a woman (called “Liberty”) with a torch in one hand and a book in the other. The date of the independence of the United States is written in the book: July 4, 1776. • Color: Although it is green today, it was originally copper-colored, but over time it oxidized and changed color.

What people can do there?

• Visit the museum: There is a museum on the island that tells the story of the statue. • Climb the pedestal: From here you can see the statue up close and enjoy the views of the port. • Climb to the crown: If you reserve in advance, you can climb a staircase to the crown of the statue, where you have a spectacular view. • Walk around the island: It is a good place to take photos and learn more about the history of the monument.

MY OPINION

In my opinion it is a very interesting place to visit and very well seen by people from all over the world. It is also an icon of hope and freedom that is very curious to see and learn about in the museum. I recommend visiting it and i would also recommend reserving a ticket to go up to the pedestal as you will see some unforgettable views
