Project Overview:

Fucacoste e cocce priatore vs Jack o' Lantern: Tradition of light and magic...

Project goals:

*KNOW AND COMPARE CULTURAL TRADITIONS:Discover the local traditions of Fucacoste e Cocce Priatorie and Jacko' Lantern, exploring their origins and meanings.*DEVELOP CREATIVITY:Create artistic activities, such as drawings, masks and carved pumpkins. *STIMULATE TEAMWORK AND COLLABORATION:Work together whit partner schools through shared activities and virtual meetings. *PROMOTE INTERCULTURAL UNDERSTANDING: Learn about the traditions of other countries and appreciate diversity.

Project Activities:

Introduction of Traditions: Italy: Italian students present the tradition of Fucacoste and Cocce Priatorie, explaining the importance of bonfires and pumpkin heads to honor the dead. Other Countries: Students from other countries (e.g., UK, USA) introduce the Jack o' Lantern tradition, explaining how pumpkins are carved and lit for Halloween to ward off evil spirits. Italian and English language exchanges will be encouraged during the discussions. Artistic Creation: Students create cocce priatorie (pumpkin heads) using simple materials such as cardboard, paper, and paints. Students carve their own Jack o' Lanterns (carved pumpkins) and decorate them. Sharing Creations: The artistic creations of both groups will be shared in an online gallery where everyone can admire and comment on each other’s work.

Stories and Tales: Each class writes a short story describing the meaning of the traditions or tales related to Fucacoste e Cocce Priatorie and Jack o' Lantern. The stories will be presented in a video or digital presentation. Virtual Meetings: Students meet virtually to discuss the traditions, share their stories, and compare the symbols of the two traditions. Interactive Quiz: An interactive cultural quiz will be organized where students answer questions about the traditions, such as “Why are bonfires lit in Fucacoste?” or “What is the meaning of Jack o' Lantern?” Final Celebration: Students prepare a final presentation, which can include a video, an image gallery, or a digital slideshow, to share with the partner schools.

Zoom or Microsoft Teams: For virtual meetings. YouTube or Vimeo: To upload videos of the final stories or activities.

Expected Outcomes:

Development of intercultural awareness : Students will understand and appreciate different traditions and will be able to describe and share them creatively. Creative and artistic skills: The children will make drawings, masks and handicrafts inspired by traditions. Collaboration skills: Students will work together, even remotely, developing communication and cooperation skills. Digital skills: Students will learn how to use digital tools to create content, presentations and share their creations with their peers.

This project, which combines learning about local traditions with a European dimension, offers a unique opportunity to discover, share, and celebrate different cultures in a stimulating and creative environment!
