Localização

O distrito de Coimbra é um distrito português que se localiza no centro-oeste do país. Limita a noroeste com o distrito de Aveiro, a norte com o distrito de Viseu, a nordeste com o distrito da Guarda, a sudoeste com o distrito de Castelo Branco, a sul com o distrito de Leiria e a oeste com o Oceano Atlântico, conhecido também pela sede do distrito que é a cidade de Coimbra.

Relevo

O Relevo do distrito de Coimbra, apresenta na sua parte interior serras elevadas e vales profundos, onde se encaixa a rede hidografica do Mondego, ao passo que na secção litoral do distrito predominam as terras mais planas com destaque para secção inferior da bacia do Mondego.

A bacia hidrografica do Rio Mondego (6645 km de área de captação) é localizada na Região Centro de Portugal e caracteriza-se por um clima mediterrânico, com uma forte variação sazonal e interanual de caudal associada a eventos de cheia e seca.
