The only theatre in Gateshead Built during World War Two Opening performace was A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1943 Home of Progressive Players Ltd. and produces 10 plays a year
You can get the 21 bus from Newbridge street which gets you there in 20 minutes!

People's Theatre, Heaton
Orginally the theatre was in the city centre but relocated to Heaton in 1962Puts on 13 shows a year Theatre works closely with Tyneside Music Society and Tyneside Film Society
From Monument you can get the 37/38 bus to get their in 15 minutes!

Northern Stage, City Centre
This theatre was known as Newcastle Playhouse until 2006Orginally opened in 1970It has three stages Presents national and international productions
This theatre is just a 10 minute walk from Monumnet and in the centre of Newcastle University Campus!

The Customs House, South Sheilds
Orginally a customs post for commerical shipping, built in 1860After the decline in the shipping industry, the building was abandoned and turned into the theatre in the 1990s Grade II listed buidling opened in 1994
You can get the metro from Monument, the yellow line, to get their in 40 minutes!

Tyne Theatre and Opera house, City Centre
Grade I listed building, opened in 1867Capacity is 1,100 It became a Cinema in 1919, but closed in 1974 Backstage was damaged by a fire in 1985, but it was all restored
