The first colonies...

A lot of Europeans arrived in search of gold in the middle of 1800.

In the War of Indipendence, England lost the 13 American colonies, so britains started to explore the world.

British explorations:

After World War II, India, the most important English colony (colonized in 1600) became indipendent. A very important peaceful person was Gandhi, that used non-violence to stop British rule in India, until his assassination in 1948.

In 1963, after India, all the British colonies in Africa became indipendent, so England lost them.

A British explorer, Captain James Cook, landed in New Zealand, where were living Native Maori people.

Britain took a lot of Canada's territories after 7 years of war.

In 1840, Maori chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi. Now, Waitangi Day is a New Zealand national holiday.

On the 4th of July 1776 the colonies declared indipendence from Britain, in this century people started to move on the West of the land.

England started to colonise Africa because it was free. In 1806 they estabilished Cape Colony (today, Cape Colony is South Africa).

Another British Capitain, Arthur Philip, landed in Australia, where were living about 315.000 native Aboriginal people. In 1920, in Australia, were living about 60.000 Aboriginal.
