In the 1950s, Philadelphia police called the Friday after Thanksgiving "Black Friday" because of traffic and crowds before a big football game. Shops were packed, and shoplifting increased.

NEGATIVE TURNED INTO POSITIVE

Negative turned into positive2: Later, stores turned "Black Friday" into a positive idea, saying it was the day they earned profits (“from red to black”). Now, it’s a big shopping event with sales lasting days, including Cyber Monday.
