• Nuclear energy is the energy released in a nuclear reaction, that is, in processes of transformation of atomic nuclei.

Nuclear energy reduces the need for oil, coal and gas, promoting greater energy independence.

• High energy efficiency:

Nuclear energy generates a significant quantityof energy with a small amount of fuel (uranium or plutonium), beinig one of the most efficient sources.

• Radioactive waste :

Nuclear waste remains dangerous for thousands of years and requires safe storage, which is expensive and complex.

• Risk of accidents:

Disasters such as Chernobyl (1986) show the devastating potential of nuclear accidents, both for humans and the environment.

Arguments against

Nuclear energy was initially seen as promising, but accidents like Chernobyl generated distrust. Today, the climate crisis has brought the issue back, highlighting its role in reducing emissions, although safety and waste challenges remain.
