How is it celebrated?
In Italy Christmas is a continuous celebration that continues over several days. For Italy the 25th December represents the birth of Jesus and it's considered a very important holiday which is usually celebrated with the family with the very famous Christmas lunch: a long table with all the relatives in front of a lot of typical food.

In Italy Christmas it' typical to gather the family to build the Christmas tree and the navity scene on December 8th. It's also customary to illuminate the tree, the outside of the house and the town squares with Christmas lights.

The traditional Christmas character is Santa Claus who arrives on the night between the 24th and the 25th December with a sleigh pulled by reindeer and brings gifts to all the homes for the children who leave milk and biscuits under the tree for him. On the morning of the 25th the family opens presentents and then prepares for lunch.
