You think the capacity you have, being smart or dumb is determined when you are born. You think that if you are bad at someting you will always be bad at that, and that you can't improve it.

You think you can always learn more, and you try to do that even if your not good at something. That way you can improve and learn things that you didn't know before.

The book I chose and what's it about

The Book

This book is about a girl named Raina Telgemeir who has an accident, and because of that she has to wear teeth braces during all her teenage years. She will have to be subjected to different oparations so that she can have her teeth back to normal. Because of that kot's of friends will start to leave her behide because of her apirience, and she will meet people who actually apriciate her for who she is. I chose this book because at the time I read it, I was going through a similar fase and also had a teeth accident. All the things that happened to her, happened to me too, so I felt comprehended by this book

Character Conflicts

1. The main charactar has her first conflict when she has an accident going out of her friends car, in this conflict she hits her mouth with the floor and starts to bleed a lot. After that the wakes up at the hospital and realises the seriousness of the matter. At first she reacts as she dosen't care, but as she starts to hear what she will have to go through she starts to cry and feel anxious.
2. The second conflict Is when she starts to lose friends because of the teeth braces she has to wear. She acts like it's not a big deal but as she loses more and more friends she ends up very depressed and alone. At the end of the book she starts to have new friends that actually care about her.
3. The third conflict is when she has to face a major teeth oporation wich will make her wear a very big and noticeable brace. This will create laughs and jokes about her that will afect her a lot and bring her down.

Character Minset

As we see durig this story Raina tends to have a Fixed Minset at first. She dosen't see things clearly and is always sad. As the story goes on we see her character development and at the end she achives to change her mindset to a Growth Mindset. This is a clear example of how a person can change their mindset to a better one which allows more learning and new points of views.

How I would react

As I said earlier, I'm have very similar aspects with the character but I know I wouldn't have reacted the same way. If any of these conflicts happened to me, the more probable thing that would have happened is that I would have turned very anxious and depressive. This is because I tend to react this way when things don't go as expected. But on the other hand at first I would have also tried to think it wasen't a big of a deal, just like the character did.
