In English and Science (Science counts it made up just as many words, try to prove me wrong), we typically see words that were put together with either history, or basic enough to see or with Latin roots. Kind of like the image next to this. In Photosynthesis, it is made up of Photo which means light, also seen in science as Photon, which literally means light atom. Syn means together and thesis means a theory or notion put forward and it had original begun as a theory, just like everything began with a theory.
