  • I can discuss how there are strategies to help me improve my learning.

So we know that we all learn differently and at different rates! We are each unique in what we like to learn and how we learn. But what about when we are all trying to learn the same thing? Is there anything we can use to help us be more successful while learning?
We can use learning strategies to help us learn better and overcome learning challenges!
Let's take a look at each of these learning strategies and think back - have you ever used this strategy in your classes before? How might each help you when you are working on something tricky?
1. Drawing - making visuals or pictures 2. Listening actively and asking questions 3. Turning big tasks or projects into smaller steps 4. Using physical materials and manipulatives 5. Creating fun and short tricks to help us remember things 6. Practising something many times 7. Working with others or on your own to help you understand
We want to learn about fractions, like 1/2 and 1/4 - what strategies could we use that can help us learn better and be successful with our learning? Which strategies do you feel would help you learn this best?

Let’s get into small groups or pairs! You will each get a short task example that a character needs help with, your job is to discuss and decide which strategies they could use to help them learn and why.

  • I can describe myself using positive language..

Do you remember your Me in Three from last unit? What qualities did you add to it?

Me in Three Words! Choose three words to describe yourself and explain how they connect to your identity or groups.

Values can refer to a person’s principles or standards of behavior; their judgment of what is important in life. Values can refer to the importance placed on something by a society or cultural group.

Today, we’re going to think about what makes us great learners! Everyone has different strengths and qualities that help them succeed. Knowing what you’re good at and what you enjoy can make learning easier and more fun. When we recognize our strengths, we can use them to help us in our work and challenges. Let’s start by thinking about some of the positive qualities that make each of us unique as learners.
Choose one journal prompt from each box to write about!
  • What is one thing you like about yourself, and how does it help you in your life?
  • What is something you’re proud of doing recently in school? What personal strengths or qualities helped you achieve it?
  • What’s one thing you find challenging in school? How could you try to help yourself with it? How can you be kind to yourself about it?
  • What’s something you want to get better at in school? What’s one small step you can take to improve?

After you are done writing you can share if you want and feel comfortable. Everyone needs to upload pictures of their writing to Seesaw though!
