When designers don't use representative data, the resulting AI systems can become biased and unfair. AI can generate realistic fake videos or audio recordings, making it difficult to distinguish between real and fabricated content. This can lead to misinformation, identity theft, and reputational harm (Gonsalves et al., 2023).
