The Fashoda incident was when the French party and a British-Egyptian force (who outnumbered the French 10-1) met on good terms but to Europe it became a war scare. Both sides stood on the verge of war, and since they were both under pressure, the French withdrew, ensuring Anglo-Egyption control over the area.

By this time, the scramble has already ended. Britain and France had won and gained ownership of most of Africa.

End of the Scramble for Africa

The war lasted between 1899 and 1902. It broke out when Britain decided to send 10,000 troops to South Africa. The British army fought a bitter colonial war against the Boers in South Africa. Even though they were outnumbered, the Boers were a determined army. After initial setbacks, the British prevailed. But not without adopting controversial tactics.
