01. UNITED STATES POLITICAL SYSTEM
The United States of America is a federal union of 50 states, whose capital is the District of Columbia since Washington DC is located there, as well as the seat of the American government. The political system of the United States of America is based on three fundamental principles: the republic, representative democracy and federalism.

THE UNITEDSTATES
Home
The United States form of government is federal and presidential. Federal because the United States is a State that historically originated from the union into a single new legal entity of a plurality of pre-existing States, and presidential because at the top of the State there is a President who at the same time is the Head of State and embodies the executive power. The structure of the federal government is defined by the Constitution signed in 1787, it is configured as a declaration of the rights and individual freedom of all American citizens. The presidential form of government in the USA is based on a delicate balance between three bodies: Congress, legislative power, the President, who exercises executive power, and the Supreme Court, which is interested in legal power.

The White House is not only a residence, but also a place of work and a symbol of executive power. It hosts official ceremonies, meetings with heads of state and other government activities. It is also a place of great public and historical interest, with guided tours available to US citizens and, in some cases, international visitors.
SIMBOL
The White House, designed by architect James Hoban, was completed in 1800 and has served as the official residence for every U.S. president, except George Washington, who never lived in the house. The building has undergone several alterations and expansions over the years, including significant work after it was burned down by the British during the War of 1812.

THE PHASES OF VOTING
Since 1965, with the approval of the Voting Rights Act, the right to vote in the United States has been made effectively universal and extended to the entire population, including African Americans. Today all citizens of the country who have reached the age of majority can vote, 18 years old. However, until 1971, voting was only allowed to people aged 21 and over. Citizens of the various federal states can then elect their representatives to Congress. Excludes residents of the District of Columbia and formally unannexed territories such as the US Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam.
The primary elections (or caucuses) lead to the nomination of those chosen for the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. They last on average 5 months, usually concluding in June. During these months the candidates participate in a series of rallies and public debates with the goal of convincing voters to support them.
Presidential election day, Election Day, falls every 4 years on a different date in the month of November. The date was not imposed by the American Constitution but by a federal law of 1845 which established that elections had to take place on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. This is done to avoid going to the polls on November 1st which is a public holiday. Voting opens weeks early in some cases to allow Americans abroad to vote and to allow voting by mail

The candidate who receives at least 270 electoral votes becomes the new president of the United States. Voting takes place by secret ballot. The results are then certified and sent to the President of the Senate (who is the vice president of the United States) within nine days. The official counting of electoral votes takes place during a joint session of Congress on January 6.
DONALD TRUMP IS THE 60 PRESIDENT OF AMERICA
THANK YOU FOR WHATCHING
The executive power is represented by the president of the United States. The American president has powers on multiple fronts. He, in fact, is both the head of state and the head of government, as well as being responsible for the armed forces and foreign affairs. The president of the United States of America is directly elected by the people every four years at the beginning of November (called Election Day).Subsequently, on January 20, he officially enters the White House. To hold the office of president, each candidate must be at least 35 years old, be an American citizen and have lived in America for at least 14 years.
Trump emphasizes free-market and deregulation-oriented economic policies. He is known for his “America First” approach and trade protectionist policies. He has been a strong advocate for stricter immigration policies and the building of a wall along the border with Mexico.

Harris has a background as a prosecutor and solicitor general, and focuses on criminal justice reform, civil rights and equality. She is also an important advocate for social justice and equity. In economics she proposes policies to reduce economic inequalities and improve access to education and healthcare. For the environment she supports measures to combat climate change and promote energy clean.

In the United States, the president is elected through the Electoral College system, a mechanism that awards a specific number of electoral votes to each state. In total, there are 538 electors and to win the presidency it is necessary to obtain at least 270 votes, or a simple majority of the College. Each state has a number of electoral votes proportional to its population, and most states adopt the "winner-takes-all" system, which awards all electoral votes to the candidate who wins the majority in the state.
To win the election, Kamala Harris would have had to win the three northeastern states won by Biden in 2020: Wisconsin (10 voters), Michigan (15) and Pennsylvania (19). The loss of these so-called "blue-wall" states thus put an end to any presidential hopes of the Democratic candidate.
