Political situation
During Amadeo I's reign , Spain was very unstable after the 1868 revolution that removed Queen Isabel II. The country was divided between supporters of the monarchy, republicans, and the Carlists, who wanted a different king. Amadeo, being a foreigner, had trouble gaining support and faced many problems. He abdicated in 1873, and Spain briefly became a republic.

During his reign, he had to face several serious problems. On one hand, the Third Carlist War, which wanted to restore the Bourbon family to the throne.
