Introduction to Diversity and Inclusion at Funeral Partners

What is Diversity?

In a nutshell, it’s about empowering people by respecting and appreciating what makes them different, in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, education, and national origin. For example Sex and Gender Diversity This category is widespread and refers to more than one grouping. It also includes gender identification, meaning an organisation or group doesn't discriminate against people based on their gender identity. This also covers those with varying sexual orientations. Racial DiversityRace is a biological factor based on bloodlines or physical traits. Examples of races include Caucasian, Black and Asian. Ensuring racial diversity can offset outdated biases based on skin colour alone.

What is Inclusion?

Inclusion is an organisational effort and practice in which different groups or individuals having different backgrounds are culturally and socially accepted and welcomed. These differences could be self-evident, such as

  • national origin
  • age
  • race and ethnicity
  • religion/belief
  • gender
  • marital status
  • socioeconomic status
Or they could be more built in such as
  • educational background
  • training
  • sector experience
  • organisational tenure
  • even personality
  • such as introverts and extroverts.
