Another long-lasting case of miscarriage of justice concerns Giuseppe Gulotta, a citizen of Trapani accused, in 1976, of being the murderer of the two carabinieri who died in the Alcamo Marina massacre. The interrogations to which the suspected murderers were subjected are the true core of the judicial error: all the accused were tortured for one or more nights by the carabinieri who had them in custody, while they forced them to sign false declarations to reconstruct the massacre from scratch : so it was that in June 1982 Gulotta was sentenced to life imprisonment.

After 22 years in prison he was granted parole, a poor achievement for such a long legal battle. The greatest consolation was the 6 million euros in compensation granted by the State in 2012, when the man was finally acquitted of all charges.
