Summary
A teacher or formally an educator, is a person who helps students to acquire knowledge, competence, or virtue, via the practice of teaching.
Description
History of Teacher
The history of teachers shows how they adapted to the needs of society. In ancient times and the Middle Ages, most teachers were men, often priests or tutors responsible to the people who hired them. Their teaching matched what society needed, like military skills in Sparta, philosophy in China, or religious teachings in the Middle Ages. Over time, teaching changed with society, focusing more on knowledge and responsibility in modern schools.
Professional path
A person who wishes to become a teacher must first obtain specified professional qualifications or credentials from a university or college. These may include the study of pedagogy, the science of teaching. Teachers, like other professionals, may have to, or choose to, continue their education after they qualify, a process known as continuing professional development.
