- Which in some cases require the intervention of medical and psychological experts.
What is an eating disorder
- Genetics: Some people may have genes that increase their risk of developing eating disorders.
- Biology: Biological factors, such as changes in brain chemicals, may play a role in eating disorders.
What provokes eating disorders
- Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)
- Rumination disorder
- Bulimia
- Pica
- Anorexia
- Binge eating disorder (BED)
Examples of eating disorders
Anorexia
- severely restricted calorie intake, which may include avoiding certain types of foods
- intense fear of gaining weight
- distorted body image
Bulimia
- Eat large amounts of food in a limited period of time and then try to purge it out.
- Purging behaviors:
- Forced vomiting, fasting, using laxatives and many other methods
Binge eating disorder (BED)
- BED often involves eating large amounts of food rapidly, in secret, and until uncomfortably full, despite not feeling hungry.
- They don’t purge
Pica
- Pica involves eating things that are not considered food and that do not provide nutritional value. This may include:
- Dirt, chalk, ice and many other things
Rumination disorder
- People regurgitates food they have previously chewed and swallowed, re-chews it, and then either re-swallows it or spits it out.
Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)
- People with ARFID experience a lack of interest in eating or a distaste for certain smells, tastes, colors, textures, or temperatures.
- People shouldn't have a distorted image of themselves
